2010-08-26 | 03:13:41 pm
As of now, the palace had no plans to talk to the Canadian Government after investigations found that 3 of the deceased tourists are Canadian Citizens.

Earlier, the Philippine National Police (PNP) noted that there are 3 Canadian Citizens in the bus, upon the rescue operations.

Presidential Spokesman Atty. Edwin Lacierda said they will be strategizing the statement for the Canadian Government, as President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III isn’t aware yet.

According to Lacierda, what is important is that the country has already coordinated with the Hong Kong and Chinese Government, and the families of the victims.

The palace hopes that the Canadian and Hong Kong government will understand that such is an "isolated" incident, and shouldn’t be a reason to discriminate the Filipino people.

Migrant group criticized the mandatory membership of Overseas Filipino Worker (OFWs) in the government’s housing loan programs, believing it to be a form of legalized mulcting or Kotong.

According to the Migrante International the unreasonable mandatory P600 fee should be paid by OFWs upon membership on the Development Mutual Fund (HDMF) or Pag-ibig fund, and deployment.

"Wala talagang natutuwa sa bawal na Pag-IBIG, lalo na ang ating mga OFW na lagi na lang nakokotongan ng gobyerno (No one is really happy with this, especially our OFWs who have always been a victim of mulcting by the government). This added burden is unfair and unreasonable, and we question its real intent," said Migrante chairperson Garry Martinez.

The mandatory fee coverage is set to begin on August 1, based on the memorandum circular issued by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).

DOLE proposes new wage system
2010-08-05 | 02:45:59 pm
Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is proposing the adoption of a new wage system, that will surely take away the negativity on minimum wage earmers.

Todays wage system is susceptible to inflation and unemployment, increasing the country’s haywire pay structures, discourages pay for performance schemes, and de-escalates incentives for collective bargaining said the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) Executive Director Ciriaco Lagunzad, an umbrella agency of DOLE.

The proposal suggests mandatory national wage, or floor wage--protecting the income of the most vulnerable sectors with low wages, Lagunzad adds.

He also added that the national floor should be productivity-based, and is presumed to improve work performance, promote bipartite modes, and do away from collective bargaining.
